St. John Bosco

An Uplifting Movie

Saint John Bosco: Mission to Love

Today I want to share with you a movie that we watched a few weeks ago.  It is uplifting and inspiring in every way, and it’s the true story of the life of Giovanni Melchiorre Bosco who grew up fatherless and in poor conditions in Italy in the mid-1800s.  At a young age he felt called to become a Catholic priest and he spent his whole life serving others, mainly young delinquent boys.  He brought orphans off the streets and out of prison and began educating them, loving them, and bringing dignity and purpose to their lives. Bosco was an ordinary man and an ordinary priest who lived extraordinarily.  Although he had to constantly fight his superiors to move forward with his inspired plans to help the downtrodden street boys in the city, he was always cheerful.  He was selfless and compassionate.  He deeply loved everyone.  He teaches us what being Christlike really means.

This very well-acted, well-cast movie is Italian with English sub-titles and it is a joy to listen to the Italian language and view their beautiful countryside.  It is dated 2004, rated NR, and is available from Netflix or {here} or try your local library.

Saint John Bosco: Mission to Love has deeply enriched my life.
Give it try.
Then let me know if you love it, too.

I went to Catholic school from Kindergarten through High School, and I always loved learning about the different saints. This sounds like a great movie!
