Ramona and Beezus

An Uplifting MovieRamona and Beezus image

Does anyone out there love this movie as much as I do?

Ramona and Beezus is a 2010 movie with a PG rating that celebrates family.  It’s one of the rare films that has married parents and more than one child.  The movie is well cast, has a well written script, and has plenty of tender and funny moments without being sappy or over-the-top silly.  And it portrays realistic family situations ~ though Ramona and Beezus have normal sibling conflicts they also have a normal love bond as sisters.

Ramona has a very vivid and active imagination that sometimes gets her in trouble, but with the love and nurturing help of her father she is able to “save the day” for her family.  Her mother is gentle and nurturing, too, and there were a few times during the movie that I got a little teary.  One of the things I really love about Ramona is that she stays true to herself and remains optimistic even when bullied or when things she does turn out disastrous.

One thing I didn’t really appreciate about the film, though, was the mother immediately returning to the work force when the father was out of a job, but other than that I absolutely adore this movie and have watched it three or four times.  It’s an uplifting, fun, feel-good movie that instills strong family values and whether you have read the Beverly Cleary books or not, my guess is you will love Ramona and Beezus.

I have not seen this movie yet because I am Ramona-obsessed and some of the previews had scenes I never remember being in a Ramona book. I know, such a purist. But it is nice to sit back and enjoy an uplifting movie about sisters. 🙂

Oh Leilani, you should still watch the movie and see if you like it. I love the books and I love the movie.

It is such a sweet movie. I love the line “Who could love a girl named Beezus?” and she said “Jesus!” (I’m sure I butchered it…but you get the idea. 🙂 Great review. I couldn’t agree more!
