Our Family, Squirrels, and Roger Kotter

Oh dear, I’m afraid I have neglected our backyard squirrels.  Yesterday we had a beautiful snow storm envelope us here in our little part of the world.  It was a gorgeous snow fall that lasted all day and has left us in a winter wonderland.  I love the snow and the peace and quiet and calm that comes with it.  This afternoon I went out to our backyard, just to have a look around, and the first thing I saw was a very pitiful looking squirrel feeder.  I sure hope the 3 squirrels that live in our {and our neighbors} backyard are wintering well on the walnuts from our walnut tree that they hoarded last summer because this is what their feeder on our backyard tree looks like:

I have completely neglected them for at least the past two months.  I usually give them peanuts about once a week but I think the last time I filled their feeder was in October.  Or was it September?  Poor squirrels.  I hope they are still alive and that they will make their appearance again in the spring.

After I wrote this post I was puttering around my house doing some last minute clean-up before starting to prepare dinner and I realized that writing this at this time is so perfect {I must have been inspired} because one year ago tomorrow {1-9-12} our good friend, Roger Kotter, passed away unexpectedly.  It was Roger that made the squirrel feeder for us many years ago.  We miss him and think of him so often and treasure this feeder in our backyard because he made it just for us.

Our family, squirrels, and Roger Kotter.  We each have a squirrel feeder, on a tree, in a backyard, in western Idaho, in common.

What a beautiful story. I always love to see the squirrels in your backyard since we don’t have any. Please feed them!! They are always so happy running up and down the tree. My mom (Gma Erb) also passed on this day in 1990. Miss her so much.

I know you always love watching “our” squirrels, Mom. I’ll give them nuts today. I forgot that Grandma also passed on this date. Thanks for reminding me. I miss her, too.

Hee hee….probably shouldn’t share how my husband hunts the squirrels in our yard. They bust into our attic and scratch around. EEP! BTW, found your blog on the Blog Class and love your vision: refinement. Sigh! I love refinement!

Hello Leilani ~ I just saw that you are a fellow Blog Class{mate}. I’m looking forward to getting to know you. That’s sad that you have problems with your squirrels. Ours just play and entertain us. Here’s to us and seeking refinement! What is your blog name?
