Independence Day

Living in the Promised Land ~ Willie Nelson
{This amazingly beautiful song reminds me what living in America is all about.
Every minute of every day I’m aware that being an American is a great privilege and a

rich blessing, and so I will always stand up and fight for freedom.}

Below are some quotes made by a few of our founding fathers.  They have been instrumental in helping me understand that there are certain elements necessary to preserve the Constitution and liberty that God has so graciously provided for us here in America.

“Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom.”  John Adams

“This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins.”  Benjamin Franklin

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever. Commerce between master and slave is despotism. Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than that these people are to be free…”  Thomas Jefferson, Panel Three, Jefferson Memorial

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”  Benjamin Franklin

“God grant that not only the love of liberty but a thorough knowledge of the rights of man may pervade all the nations of the earth, so that a philosopher may set his foot anywhere on its surface and say: This is my country.”   Benjamin Franklin

“Happiness is more effectually dispensed to mankind under a republican form of government than any other.”  George Washington

“The only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be laid in religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty; and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments….We waste so much time and money in punishing crimes, and take so little pains to prevent them. We profess to be republicans, and yet we neglect the only means of establishing and perpetuating our republican forms of government, that is, the universal education of our youth in the principles of Christianity, by means of the Bible; for this divine book, above all others favors that equality among mankind, that respect for just laws.”  Benjamin Rush

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”  Benjamin Franklin

“But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.”  John Adams

May we each do our part to ensure that our inspired Constitution is preserved and our God-given freedoms are upheld and/or restored.  Have a wonderful 4th of July.
