Getting Started

038-001

{The above garden flowers are in remembrance of my refined grandmother
who also loved beautiful things.}

I have always said that I hope I can grow old gracefully. I want to be refined in all that I say and think and do. I have always thought elegant women in their “older” years are the most beautiful of women. And I want to grow-up to be one of “them.”

And so just naturally, I spend time thinking about these words. Graceful. Refined. Elegant.

Here are their definitions:

1.  graceful ~ characterized by grace of form, manner, movement, or speech

2.  refine ~ to bring to a pure state; free or separate from impurities or other extraneous substances / to purify from what is coarse or debasing; make elegant or cultured / more fine, subtle, or precise / to become pure / to become more elegant or polished / to make distinctions in thought or language / to improve by inserting finer distinctions, superior elements, etc.

3.  elegant ~ polished and dignified, as in tastes, behavior, or literary style / graceful in form or movement / of superior quality; exceptional

When I first started thinking about writing a blog I thought about all of the blogs I’ve looked at, all of the inspirational articles and personal stories I’ve read and I have been positively influenced by each of them. So, I feel a bit intimidated starting my own blog knowing all of the amazing and talented people “out there.” I am not at all confident about having my writing put out there for the world to read and judge and I’m quite nervous that my posts will not be of good quality. But I still want to do this ~ mostly for myself. I want to try to improve my writing abilities and widen my interests, deepen my thoughts and enrich my own life.  Many of my family members and friends are encouraging me to follow through with this new venture and I’m very grateful for their enthusiasm, kind words, and advice.

My interests include reading and cooking, caring for my family and home, and spending time with friends and family.  As I embrace my daily duties, as well as pleasures, I hope to find the beauty in each of them so that my life will become polished and dignified.

Hopefully, this blog will encourage each of us to grow; to be graceful and elegant and refined in our everyday living so we will be one of “those” women ~ not just later in life, but now.

What about you?
Do you have the same desires?
If so, please join me on this journey.

    Lori,

I was so happy to see that you have a blog.
I know the words you write will lift my heart. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to know that on hard days, I can just “pull you up” on my computer and smile!

    Love and miss you!
    Hugs,
    Stacey

      Stacey –
Thanks for the encouragement. I will always remember that you were the first to read my first post and the first to write a comment. Luv you, too, good friend.
