Delicious Breadtwists

  • 1-1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (or honey)
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 3-1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2-3 tablespoons melted butter
  • minced garlic (optional)
  • kosher salt
  • grated parmesan cheese

  1. Combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Add the flour and salt. Mix until smooth then knead for 3 minutes.
  3. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  4. On a floured surface, roll the dough out to the approximate size of a cookie sheet.
  5. Mix the melted butter and minced garlic, if using, and then brush onto the dough.
  6. Sprinkle with kosher salt.
  7. Fold in half and cut into 1-inch strips.
  8. Twist and place the strips on a cooking sheet.
  9. Let raise for 15-20 minutes.
  10. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately after baking, brush with more butter (or garlic butter) and sprinkle with kosher salt and grated parmesan cheese, if desired.

*These breadsticks stale after a day or two so I usually put our left-overs in the freezer and pull them out for another meal.
